Small Talk Question ESL: What's it like?

Small Talk Lesson 10: What’s it like?

✨ Introduction (English)

In small talk, we often ask for opinions or descriptions. A very useful question is:

Q: What’s it like?
👉 It means: Tell me about it or Describe it to me.

This can be about a movie, a teacher, a schedule, or even a person.

✨ 한국어 설명

스몰토크에서는 상대방의 의견이나 묘사를 자주 묻습니다. 가장 유용한 질문 중 하나가 바로:

Q: What’s it like? (…어때요?)
👉 즉, 그건 어때요? 설명해 주세요.

📝 Practice Ideas

  1. Ask about 5 different things: What’s school like? What’s your teacher like?
  2. Practice describing with adjectives (funny, cool, busy, exciting, horrible).
  3. Role-play: after watching a movie, ask your partner “What was it like?”

📌 Teacher’s Tip:
“What’s it like?” is not asking for good/bad only — it wants a description. Teach students to use adjectives and expand their answers.
